WPL | Twitter in splits as phantom spin sees Kashvee let slip two fours despite Dottin's coaching

Talent is almost never enough to make it at the elite level no matter the sport, with the ability to understand the game's nuances and extract the maximum often counting for more. Kashvee Gautam unfortunately became a living example of the same on Tuesday with two horrid misfields in Baroda.
Gujarat Giants endured a tragic top-order collapse against the Mumbai Indians to be left reeling at 28/4, after being asked to bat first in their league stage encounter at the Kotambi Stadium, and despite Harleen Deol's 32-run resistance could only put a subpar 120 on the board. A decent start from Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia up top, followed by a slew of boundaries from Natalie Sciver-Brunt, meant the visitors were cruising along to the target much to the chagrin of opposition skipper Ashleigh Gardner. Just when it seemed things couldn't get worse, Kashvee Gautam's rookie mistakes in the field left the senior players in her line-up raging.
On the first ball after the powerplay, Priya Mishra floated a half-tracker at Natalie that was duly put away towards deep square-leg. The English woman expected no more than a double but was pleasantly surprised when Kashvee, sprinting to her left to get to the ball, failed to account for the spin generated by the bat's whi[ as the ball skipped along the ground and safely passed behind her for a boundary. Deandra Dottin, who was running in for cover from the midwicket region, made no attempt to hide her frustration before animatedly explaining to the 21-year-old what physics were at play. However, two deliveries later, Natalie struck a similar shot only this time with more power, causing the ball to make contact with the surface only a few times as it headed to the boundary. Kashvee came running again and with a sparing dive seemed to have it covered but much to her embarrasment, the Kookaburra turned again with the last bounce to send her packing and race past the fence.
The likes of Gardner, Beth Mooney, and Dottin all wore expressions of shock to their face and Twitterati was not surprised.
