South Africa defeated England by seven wickets in their final game of the league stages and booked the semi-final spot by sitting at the top of Group B. Marco Jansen’s three-fer, coupled with fifties from Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen, helped South Africa chase down the 180-run target.
Winning the toss in their last game of the league stage, Jos Buttler decided to bat first against a lethal South African bowling attack. Rightly so, they were outsmarted inside a 62-run powerplay, losing three crucial wickets to Marco Jansen. Right after. Under Rassie van der Dussen’s guidance, South Africa commanded well in the chase, negating both pace and spin with no hurry. A boundary on occasions would do good as Rassie followed Klaasen in the half-century list of the match, curtailing the equation to 29 required off 25 overs. The tag team almost pulled off the chase, but Adil Rashid ended up with a consolation scalp with just five needed. A six from David Miller was enough to seal the deal as the Proteas topped the Group B stage with five points and headed towards the semi-finals.
