As a professional athlete, having match awareness and giving the best on the field is indispensable. However, that didn’t quite seem the case for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday, with a plethora of sloppy fieldwork against the UP Warriorz at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.

As the toss belonged to the Bengaluru side, captain Smriti Mandhana decided to field first in their second-last game of the league stage. Openers Georgia Voll and Grace Harris kicked off the innings on a high by attacking the new ball bowlers, followed by the spinners and medium pacers during the middle-overs phase. Despite Harris’ wicket due to a runout, Voll continued the attack and inched near the century mark as the innings progressed towards the final over. However, the attention quickly shifted to a fielding mishap, creating a social media buzz about the game.

On the second ball of the last over, Charlie Dean dished a fuller one at the stumps that Voll drilled towards long off for a single. But a fumble in the field from Sneh Rana there was followed by an erratic throw over Dean’s head, allowing the Warriorz duo to run for a double. The bowler did try to stop the ball with a leap but it went in vain. Subsequently, even the fielder backing up couldn’t make a neat throw, resulting in schoolboy errors in the field. The Twitterverse spotted this poor act from the visitors and buzzed around the social media network.
