Send-offs can always be fiery in the game of cricket, but Indian pacer Akash Deep came up with an innovative alternative during the fifth Test against England. After dismissing Ben Duckett, the pacer went towards him, putting his arms around his shoulder before bidding a friendly send-off.

‌After bundling out India for a modest 224, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley began aggressively on day two of the fifth and final Test at The Oval in London. The pair sent the visitors on a leather hunt, racing to 92/0 at the end of the 12th over.

Duckett was more severe as he smashed five fours and two sixes during his 33-ball 43, while Crawley also chipped in with 47 off 40 balls. Akash Deep troubled the southpaw early on, inducing an edge that fell short in the fourth over. But Duckett bounced back with a stunning reverse pull that went over the wicketkeeper’s head, for six.

The assault continued with the opener smashing three more boundaries in the pacer’s next over. However, Akash had his moment under the sun as he dismissed the explosive opener in the 13th over of the game.

After three dots in the first three balls, Duckett tried to reverse scoop Akash but failed to make contact with the bat and got hit on his right thigh. The batter’s ego forced an encore the very next ball, edging the ball to wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.

Akash Deep was chuffed up as the umpire raised his finger, running towards the batter, thumping his chest. The pacer gently put his arm around Duckett’s shoulder and exchanged words with a smile on his face. The left-handed opener could not do much as he lost the battle and silently left the field.

Twitter was in splits as Akash Deep went out of the box to bid a friendly adieu to the batter, in an attempt to evade the match referee’s ire.
