Surrey continued its dominance in the South Group points table, with an 8-run win against Middlesex in a South Group fixture at the Lord’s in London. With this win, Sam Curran’s men kept their dominance at the top of the tournament standings, with 10 wins in their 13 games so far in the tournament.

The visiting skipper, Sam Curran, won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Surrey posted a total of 189/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Will Jacks scored 52 runs off 36 balls, with five fours and two sixes, followed by star middle-order batter Tom Curran’s 47 runs off just 22 balls, with seven fours and a six. Ryan Higgins of Middlesex bowled a sensational spell, scalping 4 wickets at 33 runs in his four overs. Besides him, Luke Hollman also bagged 2 wickets, alongside a wicket each picked by Zafar Gohar, Noah Cornwell, and Tom Helm.

Later in the second innings, during Middlesex’s run chase, what caught the attention of the fans was the stunning reverse hit smashed by Luke Hollman off Surrey skipper Sam Curran. It happened on the fifth ball of the 19th over when Curran bowled a slower one around the off stump, and Hollman first tried a normal scoop before suddenly switching to a reverse hit to smash it for a six. Hollman ended up scoring an unbeaten knock of 32 runs off just 14 balls, with five fours and a six.

Earlier in Middlesex’s run chase, Stephen Eskinazi scored 53 runs off 38 balls, with six fours and a six, followed by 29 runs each scored by skipper Leus du Plooy and Ryan Higgins. However, these efforts went in vain as Middlesex could score 181/6 in the entire 20 overs, falling nine runs short of the target and losing the game by 8 runs. Chris Jordan scalped 2 wickets at 28 runs in his four overs for Surrey in the second innings. Besides him, Jordan Clark, Will Jacks, and Jamie Overton also claimed a wicket each.

Unbelievable stuff from Luke Hollman:
