One of the painful moments is to come close to your goal but fail to complete it by bare margin. Similar was the fate with Devon Conway who was so near to scoring a century on International return from injury but failed to do so, courtesy of a terrific close-in catch at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Eyeing to make it a back-to-back win in the ensuing Tri-Nation series with Pakistan and South Africa, New Zealand captain won the toss and chose to field first. On the back of Matthew Breetzke’s 150 and Wiaan Mulder’s fifty, South Africa pushed the scoreboard to 304 in the first innings. Matching their brilliant batting, Kane Williamson and Devon Conway laid the foundation with the former smoking a century in the 34th over. As the southpaw aimed to join him in the century list, a sensational catch from Senuran Muthusamy in the 36th over sent Conway packing.

Batting at 97, Conway looked for a wild slog down the V region on the second ball of the 36th over against Junior Dala. Having survived marginally as the ball missed the leg stump, he tried to cut away a length length delivery outside the stumps on the subsequent delivery. Although he middled it, the ball gushed aerial towards backward point when Muthusamy swerved to his left to gobble the ball firmly. Eventually, Conway was seen disappointed, yet wore a smile to subdue his agony, sending the Twitterverse abuzz.
